How a winter call-out works.
Four steps that are the same on every call-out — including a record with the time of day.
Weather and site check
We follow the weather for your property and decide on that basis when to come out — not to a rigid timetable. On site we check where ice has actually formed: north-facing sides, driveways and steps freeze earlier than open areas.
Clearing
Footpaths, driveways and parking spaces are cleared before the times laid down by your local authority begin — in Hesse usually from 7 am on weekdays and from 9 am on Sundays and public holidays. The cleared snow goes where it obstructs no one and blocks no drains.
Gritting
We use a spreader so that a continuous track is laid rather than stripes and gaps. Our usual material is grit: many Hessian municipalities prohibit de-icing salt on footpaths because it harms trees, soils and groundwater. We only add salt where it is permitted and where ice has frozen solid.
Final check and report — with the time
At the end we check the cleared areas once more and record the call-out in the report with the date and time. In winter maintenance that is more than a formality: if someone falls, the recorded time of clearing is the evidence that the duty to keep the property safe was met. If snow keeps falling we come out repeatedly — each call-out is recorded separately.
